The Foundation’s Grant Program will accept applications annually. All applications for 2016 are due by December 09, 2016.
All applications must include the Winthrop Area Foundation Grant Cover Page, narrative and follow guidelines.

The Winthrop Area Foundation was established in 2003 with generous gifts from area residents. The endowment itself, which continues to grow, is an affiliate fund of the Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation.
The mission of the Foundation is to benefit the people of the greater Winthrop Area. Our mission is supported by our yearly grants to local groups in each of these areas:
- Economic Growth
- Youth & Education
- Local History
- Community Projects & Activities
Interest from the endowment fund is distributed via a grant application process annually. Grant recipients have included:
- The Winthrop Alumni Association
- Winthrop Historical Society
- Early Childhood Education
- Winthrop General Federation of Women
- Santa’s Helpers
- Winthrop Library Friends
- Winthrop Emergency Management
- The “Welcome to Winthrop” sign project
